For years, this gorgeous Queen Anne-style house looked like a horror movie in the making. This impressive manner of York, PA stood falling apart, its shingles and siding crumbling, and its beautiful detailing buried under layers of dust and rubble.

Although the home is more or less a shadow of its former self, it didn’t always look like a haunted house. Built in 1887, the house was designed in the Queen Anne style, which features a lot of delicate brick detailing, contrasting trims, large porches, and lots of beautiful decorative details.

Very few of those meticulous details are clear now.

The five-bedroom, three-bathroom house was an architectural marvel and solidly built, but like any home, the manor needs care if it’s to stay in good shape. And sadly, no one had cared for this house in decades, causing it to fall into disrepair. Had no one stepped in, this historical house might have been too far gone.

Luckily, though, someone saw the beauty behind the shabby exterior of the home. The new owner of the property saw the value in restoring a piece of architectural history, one that they felt would add character to the area.

Although, considering that York was a large playing field in the American Revolutionary war (it was formerly called Yorktown, which might put some of this into perspective) this is already a hugely historical area!

The manor was deemed “uninhabitable” by authorities and probably would have been knocked down before long. Happily, the home was given a second shot at life! It was restored to its former glory — which, we have to say, is an incredible sight to see.

After clearing away the years of neglect, the new owner was able to transform the manor. It looks like an entirely different house! Truly, it feels like we’ve hopped in a time machine and we’re seeing the way this house looked back when it was first built.

All the siding details have been redone, and the entire home has been repainted with shades of olive green, terra cotta red, and gold. It gives the manor a gorgeous, inviting feeling…much better than it looked beforehand, that’s for sure.

The old wood that was rotted away has been replaced entirely, including the very structure of the home. Despite all the hard work (and undoubtedly, all the money) that went into this massive project, the house is now entirely “liveable” and has undergone an incredible transformation.

Even the inside has been redone! The team that was restoring the house tried to salvage and reuse as much of the old house as possible, but they had to replace some pieces of the home with new, and equally gorgeous, parts.

Now, the beautiful grand staircase has been redone, the floors are composed out of five different types of wood, and splashes of color and light flood the gorgeous foyer thanks to stained glass panels. This renovation has breathed new life into this amazing manor, allowing all of us to see what this home must have looked like back in its prime.
