A devastating boating accident in Jacksonville, Florida has left a family shattered and a community grieving. Three family members—a father, his mother, and one of his children—have been confirmed dead after their boat capsized in the St. Johns River Friday night. As of now, one child remains missing, and the search continues.

The victims have been identified as Cristian Marin, an employee at Florida Homes Realty & Mortgage, his mother, and one of his children.

The real estate firm confirmed Marin’s death in a heartfelt Facebook post on Monday. “Cristian was not only a valued member of our team but a kind and devoted father who loved his family deeply,” the post read.

Authorities report that eight people were aboard the 18-foot vessel when it capsized near the Dames Point Bridge around 7 p.m. Friday.

The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department (JFRD) arrived on scene by 8 p.m., deploying four rescue boats and pulling four survivors from the water. Initially, one person was found dead and four others were considered missing—including two children.

Since then, two more bodies—one adult and one child—have been recovered. The search continues for the remaining missing child. According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), which is leading the investigation, the U.S. Coast Guard suspended their search on Saturday. However, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and several other local agencies remain actively involved in the recovery efforts.

Heartbreak continues to ripple through the community, especially as the mother of the still-missing child has urged the public to share her child’s picture, hoping it may aid in bringing her child home. “We are pleading for help. Please keep sharing, please keep looking,” she said.

What led to the tragic accident remains under investigation. Officials have not yet determined what caused the boat to capsize, though weather and water conditions at the time are being reviewed.

The Coast Guard noted that no one aboard the boat was wearing a lifejacket at the time of the accident, a detail that has added urgency to water safety discussions in the area.

In response to the tragedy, a GoFundMe campaign has been launched to support the grieving family during this unimaginable time. Community members have rallied together, offering prayers, donations, and volunteer support in the ongoing search.

This heartbreaking incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of water safety and wearing lifejackets, especially with children on board.

As authorities continue to search for the missing child, the community holds its breath, hoping for a miracle and mourning the lives already lost.
