As we all well know, scoring a deal on airfare isn’t just about the timing of when you fly. It’s also heavily dependent on when you buy. Booking on a Tuesday afternoon will most likely give you the cheapest options, but on which Tuesday afternoon before your trip should you book?

According to CNN Money, the magic number for domestic flights is 47:

Forty-seven days before takeoff is when domestic plane tickets are at their absolute cheapest, according to a study of 2014 flight data from online travel agency CheapAir.

The CheapAir study [also] found that flights purchased on their “best price” day (usually about 47 days before takeoff) were an average of $201 cheaper than flights purchased on their “worst price” day, which usually falls within seven days of the trip.
