In our society, it’s not often that you get to see a grown man cry. While women have to deal with plenty of double standards that guys don’t, I think that this one is maybe the most heartbreaking. I mean, c’mon, everyone is entitled to shed a tear or two without judgement. Hey, even big, burly talk show hosts need to just let it out every once in a while!

To celebrate Steve Harvey’s birthday, the comedian’s crew thought that it would be nice to surprise the much-loved personality with something seriously special. And even though Steve starts the clip off a bit wearily, saying that he didn’t want any surprises during his televised celebration, it’s clear that his colleagues just couldn’t help themselves.

But let’s be honest—the birthday boy doesn’t look particularly happy about this unexpected break in his show. He unenthusiastically begins to read the mysterious dialogue from the teleprompter, saying, “Calling in via satellite from Orlando. Let’s see who it is.”

When Steve sees the word “Orlando”, he takes a bit of a pause. It’s clear that he is beginning to have some idea of who this person may be. But, once this guest’s face pops up on the screen in front of him, the usually cool and collected talk show host immediately breaks down in tears.

The man on the screen looks straight into the camera and gives Steve his sweet greeting. “Hi, this is Rich Liss from Orlando, Florida, and I called you to wish you a happy birthday,” the gentleman says.

Steve is so shocked by the unexpected guest, that he can barely look back at the screen. After a few moments, the host squeaks out a, “Hey, man. I love you, man.”

It’s a bit of an awkward scene, but the emotion is so real that it’s hard to tear your eyes away from it. Shortly after, the camera pans out to reveal a woman standing by Rich’s side. Steve immediately recognizes her as Becky, Rich’s wife.

So, who exactly are Rich and Becky Liss to this emotional talk show host? As it turns out, the three have quite the history.

You see, before Steve was the famous comedian that he is today, he was working in Cleveland, supporting himself in the carpet cleaning business. The Lisses gave him his first contract and even loaned him money when he first started trying his hand at being an entertainer.

As expected, when Steve sees these two for the first time in years, he wants to treat them in the best way that he knows how, and boy is it special!
