Woman Overheard 2 Soldiers’ Conversation On A Plane And Knew She Had To Talk To The Flight Attendant

It was just going to be another normal flight for one woman—until it wasn’t.

As she sat down in her assigned seat, she saw a line of soldiers come on board, taking their seats as well.

Curious, she asked them where they were going. One of the soldiers told her that they were heading to Petawawa for a couple weeks for a special training, and then they were going to be deployed to Afghanistan.

About an hour into the flight, the flight attendants announced that lunches would come around for $5 a pop. With several hours left on the flight, it seemed like a no-brainer to purchase one of the sacks.

But the woman overheard one of the soldiers ask another solider if he had planned to buy lunch, and his response was: “No, that seems like a lot of money for just a sack lunch. Probably wouldn’t be worth five bucks. I’ll wait till we get to base.”

When the woman noticed that none of the soldiers were buying lunch, she shook her head. She knew she couldn’t let them go hungry.

She decided to perform one absolutely amazing act of kindness. She went up to the stewardess nearest her, handed her a $50 bill, and told her to please get all the soldiers lunch sacks.

The flight attendant was near tears. “My son was a soldier in Iraq; it’s almost like you are doing it for him,” she told her.

After the flight attendant got the soldiers their lunch, she then treated the woman to her own first-class meal as a thank-you for being so kind.

The pay-it-forward acts didn’t stop there. When the woman got up to go to the restroom not too long later, a man stopped her, telling her that he saw what she did and that he wanted to help too. He handed her $25.

Not too long after that, the flight captain came walking down the aisles, looking at the seat numbers. When he found the woman he heard treated all the solders, he smiled and told her, “I want to shake your hand. I was a soldier and I was a military pilot. Once, someone bought me a lunch. It was an act of kindness I never forgot.”

It doesn’t end there either! A short while later, when the woman got up to stretch her legs, a man a few rows ahead of her, who had also heard what she did, reached out to her and gave her another $25. And then, when the plane finally landed and everyone was gathering their belongings to get off, another man placed an additional $25 in this woman’s shirt.

Of course, this woman clearly wasn’t the type to keep all this money for herself. She walked over the soldiers, handed them all the cash she got from passengers, and told them, “It will take you some time to reach the base.. It will be about time for a sandwich. God Bless You.”

It just goes to show how a small act of kindness can benefit others greatly—just a little here and there goes a long way. The woman’s name was Jennie Brown. Read more of her story here.
