SNL comedian Dana Carvey is grieving the death of his son today. According to his IMDB biography, Dex Carvey, Dana’s oldest son, died on November 15, 2023. He was only 32 years old.

TMZ reported about Dex’s death and shared that his girlfriend, Kaylee, was the one who called for help. When first responders arrived, they found that Dex had locked himself in the bathroom. He was unconscious. They attempted to revive him but to no avail. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

At first, TMZ did not report a cause of death because an autopsy and toxicology tests had yet to be done. Now, there is an update. It appears that Dex died of what his dad is calling “an accidental drug overdose.”

Dana posted an update shared by TMZ. In the update, Dana and his wife, Paula Zwagerman, wrote, “Last night we suffered a terrible tragedy. Our beloved son, Dex, died of an accidental drug overdose.”

The couple continued the post by sharing some of Dex’s talents and accomplishments. They wrote, “Dex packed a lot into those 32 years. He was extremely talented at so many things – music, art, film making, comedy – and pursed all of them passionately.”

Dex had followed in his father’s footsteps in recent years, performing stand-up comedy. He opened for his father at the Netflix special “Straight White Male” in 2016. You can see his stand-up routine in the video below.

In their update, Dex’s parents also shared the things their son loved most in life. They wrote, “Most of all, he loved his family, his friends and his girlfriend, Kaylee.” They also added a few details about his creativity that are sure to be missed such as “his handmade birthday cards” and how “he made everything fun.”

Dana and Paula ended their post by sharing a message to people dealing with drug addiction. They wrote, “To anyone struggling with addiction or who loves someone struggling with addiction, you are in our hearts and prayers.”

Dana posted another note about his late son:

Dana has another son, Thomas, who is also a comedian. Dex is survived by his parents and his brother.
