You Can Sleep Inside Giant, Luxurious Wine Barrels At This Vineyard in Portugal

We’re big wine lovers over here. From Pinot Grigio to Pinot Noir, we love both reds and whites. So when we heard that there was an opportunity to sleep inside a giant wine barrel, we went a little crazy.

What, you’ve never thought about sleeping in a wine barrel before? Well if you have, your dream is about to become a reality. And if you haven’t, then this is probably just something you never knew you needed.

There actually IS somewhere you can literally sleep inside a giant wine barrel, and it’s called the Quinta da Pacheca estate in Douro, Portugal. Yes, we are dead serious. And yes, we just looked up how much flights are to Douro, Portugal.

The luxurious wine barrel suites are just steps from the estate’s gorgeous vineyards, and literally offers overnight accommodations inside One. Giant. Wine. Barrel. Sorry, but it bears repeating.

“In an idyllic and romantic setting, Wine Barrels will provide you a unique experience of contact with nature and the monumental reality of the Douro Wine Region,” the website states. “Unique moments of rest await for you in an environment of rurality.”

Wine snobs alike, rejoice! Or shall we say, “cheers”?

The hotel houses 10 wine-barrel suites just steps from its lush vineyards. And if you’re kind of like, “no, we were just kidding, we need bathrooms and sinks and modern amenities!’—they’re got all of that covered, too.

In fact, Quinta da Pacheca is even better than your standard chain: when you nook a barrel, you also get private bathrooms with a walk-in shower, skylights, big round beds, and a private terrace. Say WHAT?

So basically, just think of it as really, really upscale camping. Grown-up upscale camping. With wine. And vineyards.

“Quinta da Pacheca created the wine barrels as a bold architectural project of suites to reinforce the originality of the wine tourism offered at the site,” a vineyard representative stated. “In an idyllic romantic setting, these wine barrel rooms will provide visitors a unique experience to the nature and significance of the Douro wine region.”

It gets even better—a one-night stay inside this oversized barrel won’t even eat up your entire bank account like you might be thinking. It costs a pretty reasonable $290 a night. Plus, don’t forget, if you are on a budget, the hotel has regular rooms as well, if you just want to stay in the barrel one night.

Speaking of the hotel,Quinta da Pacheca is a treat in itself. The 140-acre estate has its own tasting room where you can sample some high-end wines. And for when you get hungry, it has its own restaurant called The Wine Room, known for its upscale and authentic Portuguese favorites. And, like we said, it’s set on its own vineyard for even more appeal.

So what are you waiting for? Grab your significant other and start planning one romantic night inside a wine barrel. We know we sure are!

Would you ever book this place and sleep in a wine barrel if you were to take a trip to Portugal? Are you a fan of out-of-the-box accommodations, or would you prefer a more traditional hotel?
