After trying for years and years to expand their family, Jamie and Skyler Scott finally got their wish. The couple were already parents to two sons – Shayden, 12, and Landon, 7 – and were really hoping to add a little girl to their brood.
Trips to a fertility specialist finally resulted in great news. They were pregnant! In an interview with People magazine, Jamie spoke about her excitement:
“When I first found out I was pregnant, I did just an at-home pregnancy test a couple days before I could officially get blood work done to see if the fertility procedure had worked. I went through so many pregnancy tests, I was used to seeing a negative. So, after all these years of trying, it was just incredible to see those two pink lines.”
Taking the blood test to confirm the results led to another discovery: elevated hCG levels meant multiples. The Scotts were awestruck upon learning they would be having quintuplets! Over the moon, they’ve been sharing the journey of their pregnancy and birth process on Facebook and Instagram through their accounts, Five Two Love: The Scott Quintuplets.
The family packed up their things and headed to Phoenix, Arizona so that Jamie could receive maternity care under a doctor with lots of experience with quints. Doctors advised her that she needed to gain an extra 100 pounds to support their growth, so she had to learn to adjust. As Jamie’s belly swelled, so did support from family and the community, with loved ones pitching in to gather clothes and other necessities for them.
On March 21st – the first day of spring – the Scotts welcomed their 5 new bundles of joy. Jamie delivered early by C-section at around 29 weeks, with the babies weighing between 2 pounds and 2 pounds, 9 ounces. Currently, the little ones are well but are still in the hospital under observation.
Not only did the Scotts get the little girl they wanted, they ended up with three daughters and two more sons! All the baby girls were sweetly named after flowers – Violet, Lily, and Daisy – while the boys were named Logan and Lincoln.
Since they were born, the babies have been kept in the NICU where they’re being closely monitored for preemie-related issues. So far, so good!
With regular visits from their big brothers and other family members from Utah, the babies are receiving loads of love and attention. Until they are released from the hospital, Jamie and Skyler will remain with the children in Phoenix, loving on them and learning how to care for premature quintuplets.
Although the quints aren’t home yet, the Scotts have decided to create a vlog on YouTube to chronicle their lives as a family of nine. The babies appear in one video being coddled like little joeys in Mom’s shirt.
Watch this video to hear directly from Jamie and Skyler about their new additions. Quintuplet births are still considered rare, though with the help of science many couples are having healthy multiple births after years of trying.
What do you think of this birth story? Have you been following the Scotts on their journey? Are you a twin or other multiple yourself?
