Sarah Jessica Parker Opens Up About Her ‘Painful’ Rift With Kim Cattrall

If you’re an avid Sex and the City fan, you can’t get enough of the infamous foursome—Carrie, Samantha, Miranda, and Charlotte. The New York-residing best friends all have their own unique personalities and yet, all remain the closest of TV friendships we’ve ever seen…until one of the characters didn’t come back for the reboot “And Just Like That.”

In previous interviews, Kim Cattrall, the actress who plays Samantha, has explained that the original series required long hours—some days working 18 hours straight. In fact, she even blames the show for her divorce and claims it’s the reason she doesn’t have children. And for that reason, she refused to do any type of spinoff.

However, there was also one actor who she doesn’t get along with in real life, despite the awesome TV friendship: Sarah Jessica Parker, who plays Carrie. The two have had a long public rift for quite some time.

Parker says that the two’s issues began in 2017, when producers were considering doing a third Sex and the City movie. However, according to Parker, that didn’t happen because that Cattrall had demanded that the studio agree to an unrelated project of hers.

“They didn’t feel comfortable meeting where she wanted to meet, and so we didn’t do the movie because we didn’t want to do it without Kim,” Parker said. “Were we [she and co-stars Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon] disappointed? Sure. But it happens.”

After that, Cattrall began to be public about her issues with Parker, saying that she wasn’t the nicest to her during their filing of the show, and that they’d really never been friends at all. However, Parker says that’s not how it went down.

“I’ve spent a lot of years working really hard to always be decent to everybody on the set, to take care of people, to be responsible to and for people, both my employers and the people that I feel I’m responsible for as a producer of the show. And there just isn’t anyone else who’s ever talked about me this way,” she said.

She chatted with Scott Feinberg on THR’s Awards Chatter podcast about why it’s “very hard to talk about the situation with Kim” and to clarify how exactly it all went down.
