Right now, I have separate school supply lists going for each kid in my household. Since we live in the South and school starts August 1 for high school and younger, things are a bit hectic shopping-wise.

Sales are popping up here and there and online deals are winning, but one of the events that helps parents out is the tax-free holiday. Never heard of it? It’s possible you haven’t if you don’t have children in school, but there are more spoils to be claimed that are not related to school supplies.

What does this mean? Certain items will be available for purchase without any added sales tax. In addition to school supplies, you can usually score clothing, electronics, and a few chosen household items.

The key is to keep up with the dates, and that is exactly what we’re going to help you do today. Compiled below is a roundup of all the states that are having their tax-free holiday weekends in the coming weeks. Be ready to hunt the sales ads and make your lists!

Be sure to double check the rules for which items are exempt from the holiday and will require you to pay tax. If you don’t see your state on this list, it means they are either not participating in back-to-school tax holiday sales or that their dates are not approaching before September.

Sorry! You can shop in a neighboring state if possible. If your state isn’t doing it at all or for this year, contact your local legislator about making a change.

Are you looking forward to tax-free back-to-school shopping? Do you wind up saving money? What’s your shopping strategy for this time of year?
