Back in June of 2022, Tiphero reported the sad news about Toby Keith and his battle with stomach cancer. The country star said he was diagnosed with cancer back in the fall of 2021. He has undergone surgery, chemotherapy and radiation.

Toby appears to be on the mend. He made an unexpected performance at Jeff Ruby’s Steakhouse on Friday (November 4). Keith was in Lexington, Ky for the 2022 Breeder’s World Cup Championship event at Keeneland Race Course. The star is a celebrity Breeders’ Cup Ambassador.

According to the social media post from restaurant owner Jeff Ruby, Toby played songs such as the 2003 sensation “I Love This Bar. and “(Sittin’ On) the Dock of the Bay.”

While this is Toby’s first performance since his cancer diagnosis, he talked about how he feels. “So far, so good,” Keith said at the time. “I need time to breathe, recover and relax. I am looking forward to spending this time with my family. But I will see the fans sooner than later. I can’t wait.” Also, Keith had to cancel his planned shows for the remainder of 2022.

Moreover, Ruby posted a photo of himself and Keith, stating “Grateful for my good friend Toby Keith! Rocking our Lexington stage after a year of kicking cancer’s a–!”

Keith has received 20 No. 1 Billboard Hot Country Songs hits, and he writes most of his songs, such as his premiere single, “Should’ve Been a Cowboy,” also “American Soldier,” “How Do You Like Me Now?” and “As Good as I Once Was.” In 2018, Keith wrote and issued the song “Don’t Let the Old Man In,” this was influenced by a chat with Clint Eastwood and then appeared in The Mule, Eastwood’s movie.
