It’s happening: Elon Musk, the richest man in the world, will be buying Twitter. The multi-billionaire had offered to buy the social network for $44 billion and the deal was recently accepted on April 25.
Musk had made it clear that he was against trying to moderate certain speech or opinions that were posted to the platform, and that if his deal was accepted, this would no longer be the case. In fact, once the deal was accepted, “even my worst critics remain on Twitter because that is what free speech means.”
Still, it isn’t clear what changes are really in store for Twitter. Don’t worry, the Internet has its thoughts. Here are some of the best tweets from people reacting to the news of Musk buying Twitter.

I’m not going anywhere. Should this place become more toxic, I pledge to strive even harder to lift up reason, science, compassion and the rule of law. The struggle against fascism, misinformation, and hate requires tough fighters. I hope you stay in the fight, right beside me.

The richest guy on the 2021 Forbes 400 owns the Washington Post. Number 2 now owns Twitter. Number 3 owns Facebook. Numbers 5 and 6 started Google. Numbers 4 and 9 started Microsoft. Number 10 owns Bloomberg. Free speech? You decide.

I stop scrolling, look up from my phone, and out the window. I see a complicated but beautiful world. It’s still going to be there no matter who owns Twitter. And we’ll continue to find ways to live in it, talk about it, and share with each other our thoughts, fears, and dreams.

Elon Musk told the United Nations he would give them $6 billion to end world hunger if they showed him a detailed plan of how they would use the money. They called his bluff and gave him their plan— and then they never got the money. Now he’s buying Twitter for $45 billion.

Friendly reminder that Elon Musk told the UN that if they gave him a budgeted breakdown of how $6Bil could end world hunger, he would do it. They gave him the budget and then he decided not to do it, and instead decided he would buy Twitter for $45Bil. https://t.co/CtRW8OJJVH
