Family Feud Goes ‘Nuclear’ After Sister-In-Law’s Racist Remark About Asian Chef’s Cooking

Ever hear the phrase “too many cooks in the kitchen”? Well, after a story on Reddit went viral, that certainly holds a new meaning.

One chef posted in the sub Reddit boarded called “Am I the A**hole?” to see whether he was being the jerk, or was it his sister in law?

Some key background details before we dive in: The chef is Asian and has been married to a Caucasian woman for 10 years. His sister-in-law, Sarah, is also a chef, and has been making jabs at him every time he cooks.

“Sarah is always criticizing everything I do,” he explains. “Whether it’s chopping, braising, marinating, etc., she always butts in with comments like “Umm, I think you should actually do X like this…”

Because of his wife, he’s learned to bite his tongue, but something happened that made it a final straw. The two were prepping for the poster’s mother-in-law’s birthdays, and Sarah really struck a nerve.

“She took one look at what I was doing, scoffed, and said something like “Oh wow, okay, so that’s not the right way of doing things,’” he said. “I pretty sternly told her to stop criticizing my cooking and that I’m also a chef like her.”

The argument should’ve ended there—but things got tense.

“She laughed and said, “making Kung Pao chicken at some Chinese restaurant doesn’t count,’” the poster recalled.

Everyone in the kitchen fell silent, and the mother-in-law even screamed at Sarah. But no one screamed more than the original poster.

“I stopped what I was doing, swore at her and called her “a racist piece of sh*t,” apologized to my MIL for not being able to stay, and left for home with my wife,” he said.

After he left, everyone else began to fight. And though his wife is on his side, she still wants him to apologize so that it will all go away.

The majority of readers say he’s definitely not the jerk in the situation—but it didn’t end there.

One of the wife’s cousins found the post and posted it to Sarah’s Facebook. Social media blew up, one thing led t another, and Sarah got demoted and may even get fired.

What do you think—who’s the jerk in this situation? Do you think Sarah deserved what she got?
