Something must be in the water in a Maine labor and delivery unit because a whopping NINE nurses working in it are currently pregnant!
Now, if you’ve been following the news recently, you’d know that there have been a handful of similar stories in recent months. There were the 16 pregnant ICU nurses from Banner Desert Medical Center in Mesa, Arizona, as well as the six pregnant nurses working in the outpatient hematology and oncology unit at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
Those were mindblowing coincidences, but this one touches our hearts, even more, seeing as these nurses practice in a labor and delivery ward. Guess working with pregnant ladies all day didn’t scare them away from the birthing process!
Perhaps unsurprisingly, this story has quickly gone viral, even after being on the radar for less than a day. In a post made to its official Facebook page, Maine Medical Center shared the photo of the eight nurses (the ninth couldn’t be present for the photo). The hospital reports that all nine of the labor and delivery nurses are due to deliver their own little ones between April and July.
Thousands have flooded their page with sweet comments, though there was one pregnant woman who expressed concern. Apparently, she’s due to give birth at the Maine Medical Center at the end of June and, after learning of this story, she was afraid–rightfully so!–that there wouldn’t be anyone available to help bring her own babe into this world.
Luckily for the patients, though, the hospital appears to have all of its bases covered. “Don’t worry! We have a plan. 😄,” it responded.
Good to know! We wouldn’t want the unit to be short on these essential staff members. After all, most moms would be quick to tell you that labor and delivery nurses serve as the true backbones for the birthing process. What would we do without them? And, more importantly, what would they do without them, too?
You see, all of these nurses are planning on having their kiddos at their place of employment, the Maine Medical Center. We’re sure that they, too, are happy that the hospital “has a plan!”
In an interview conducted by WYFF News 4, we get a better sense for these supportive nurses. “After each one of us started to say, ‘We’re pregnant,’ I think it was a happier announcement each time, and we’re all there for each other,” nurse Erin Grenier said.
Fellow nurse Amanda Spear says that the ladies are quite happy to be sharing the experience with one another. “It’s really nice coming to work and seeing other people who are just as pregnant and watching their bellies pop and just talking about these experiences that we are going through together,” the nurse gushed.
According to the nine nurses, they will all be there for one another’s births, whether it be in a friendship or professional capacity. How sweet is that?!
