It can be super exciting to find out that you’re pregnant. There are so many things to do to get ready for the new little bundle of joy. As parents, we start preparing the nursery, buying baby clothes, asking for advice from friends and reading the baby books.
With all the excitement of pregnancy though, it can also be exhausting. Does anyone else remember the nausea and fatigue that sometimes happens, especially in the first trimester? Pregnancy can be easy breezy for some moms, but for others, it can feel terribly uncomfortable leaving them counting the days until their due date.
Whether the pregnancy side effects are mild or extreme, one thing is true with human babies, they’re ready to meet the world after nine months. Sure, some arrive a little earlier or a little later than their due date, but it’s safe to say that every baby will be born no later than a few weeks after the due date.
So, why do some women think they’ve been pregnant for more than a year? Like, they’re 100% convinced they’ve been pregnant for more than a year. They’ve been to multiple OB-GYNs. They’ve had multiple ultrasounds. They believe without a shadow of a doubt that there is a baby inside. They even think they can hear the heartbeat on a doppler.
The Dr. Phil Show wanted to help two women in this exact situation, so they sent them to have yet another ultrasound with Dr. Thais Aliabadi, an OB-GYN. Dr. Aliabadi took her time and care to examine the women and listen to them, but when she looked at the ultrasound for each woman, she saw an empty uterus.
Obviously, you can’t be pregnant if you have an empty uterus. Yet, these women were both still convinced that they were pregnant. After all, how else would you explain the missing monthly periods and the weight gain?
Dr. Alibadi actually had a very serious diagnosis for one of the patients. She looked at her blood records and was pretty sure she knew exactly what was really going on.
The woman didn’t want to listen. She was still convinced that she was pregnant. Dr. Phil had a wonderful way of getting her to think about listening though. He said that if she is pregnant, she should take care of the baby’s mother and make sure she’s healthy. It’s hard to argue with that.
What was Dr. Alibadi’s real diagnosis? Watch the video below to find out.
Aren’t you glad we can’t really be pregnant for over a year?
