It’s only natural for a bride to wants to be an attention hog on her wedding day. It’s the biggest day of her life, after all. But how far would you go to ensure that all the attention is on you and not your bridesmaid? Your very, very pregnant bridesmaid, that is.
The bride took to Reddit to unload her frustrations about something that happened on her big day. In the thread, she explained that when she and her wedding party were taking photos, her seven-month pregnant bridesmaid was “deliberately holding her belly so it was really obvious in the fabric of her dress (think basically every maternity shoot photo ever taken).”
The bride had quickly asked her to “stop holding her hands to show off her belly and to just pose like everyone else,” she wrote in the Reddit post, adding that she “had to remind her a few more times before we’d finished taking the wedding party photos.”
When the bride got back from her honeymoon that she took after her wedding, she felt like the bridesmaid was avoiding her. Finally, a mutual friend admitted the bridesmaid was kind of pissed at the bride for “trying to make her look fat, not pregnant” during the photos—when really, the bride just didn’t want the belly to be so apparent in her wedding photos.
“Now I’m annoyed because I paid a lot of money for a wedding photo shoot, not maternity pics,” the bride wrote, opening the story up for discussion. She wants to know: Is it her being the jerk—or the bridesmaid?
Of course, when you open up this kind of thing on the Internet, you’re bound to get comments that both side with your point of view, and disagree. There were quite a few comments for both.
“Those are your wedding photos, and there is absolutely no reason someone should be deliberately showing off their ‘baby bump’ to take away from the bride in a photo,” someone wrote in support of the bride’s views. “Making the photo shoot about herself and demonstrating her pregnant belly is not acceptable in a wedding photo.”
Then there were those women relating to the bridesmaid’s side: “As someone who was hella pregnant as a bridesmaid, held my belly in many pics because I was self conscious,” someone explained. “I in no way was trying to steal attention, and it’s likely your friend wasn’t either.”
“Posing like that is not trying to make it into a maternity shoot, unless she pulled the camera person aside and asked to take pictures of herself with her bump,” someone else wrote. “She was just trying to feel halfway decent about herself in the pictures. It sucks being pregnant.”
And then there were those who thought the notion was utterly ridiculous. “This sounds so bridezillaish. People at the wedding aren’t photo props. Bridesmaids aren’t photo props. They’re people.”
Tough call here! Whose side are you on? Was it the bride out of line for asking her pregnant bridesmaid to stop posing with her hand on her belly? Or because it was her wedding, she gets to make the call? We’d love to hear your opinion on this one!
