What do you do when you partied too hard last night and you wake up with the worst pounding headache of your life, the nausea is unbearable, and you’re not sure you even recall going to bed last night?
We’ve all been there. And it sucks. Chances are when you’re in that state you try absolutely anything and everything you can to feel better again. Pepto Bismal, Immodium, and Tylenol are just the beginning—then there are the other less medical options: Eat a greasy breakfast, try to sleep it off, and sometimes even drink a beer.
Sometimes these remedies work, and sometimes they don’t—it probably depends on what alcohol you drank, how much of it you drank, how hydrated (or dehydrated) you are, etc.
There is one unexpected thing that always seems to work for a hangover. What’s that you ask? Pedialyte.
Yes, the same stuff that children take for hydration. Except it’s not really just a kid’s product any more.
Ever since people discovered that Pedialyte was a great hangover curer, the company began to market their products towards adults. And now they just came out with the ultimate product, which is only for adults.
It’s called the Pedialyte Sparkling Rush Powder Packs, but it’s been deemed the “hangover helper” because it works magically to cure even the worst of hangovers.
You just add cold water to the delicious-tasting powder packs and you’ll get a fizzy drink that will rehydrate you and make you feel human again.
The drink works to “replace fluids and electrolytes more effectively than sports drinks to help prevent dehydration caused by vomiting, diarrhea, exercise, travel, and heat exhaustion,” according to their website.
While this is the first time Pedialyte has marketed a product directly for adults, they also have a host of products they recommend for helping hangovers as well.
There’s the Pedialyte Powder Packs, which are very similar to the new Pedialyte for hangovers; Classic Liters, which is your basic Pedialyte drink, but super convenient as it doesn’t even need to be refrigerated and can be taken anywhere; and Pedialyte Freezer Pops, which are super soothing and hydrating in the event of an evil hangover.
This isn’t anything new—from 2012 to 2015, Pedialyte’s sales grew 22 percent. Even Google searches for phrases that combine words “Pedialyte” and “hangovers” have increased a whopping 3,600 percent. “Today, almost half of our Pedialyte business [is households without kids],” says Ryan Frank, director of brand marketing at Abbott.
“I think as far as using Pedialyte, hydrating helps hangovers,” Dr. Alexis Halpern, emergency medicine physician at New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, says. “Eating helps, too, but sleep is the best thing. It’s just hard to do sometimes.”
Were you aware that Pedialyte worked so well for hangovers in adults? Have you ever tried drinking it after a long night out? Are you excited that they finally have a product specifically meant for hangovers? Tell us if you’ve ever used the stuff before and if it worked for you!
