VIDEO: Paralyzed Girl Surprises Her Nurse, And Her Reaction Goes Viral

Here, at TipHero, we take every chance that we get to shine a spotlight on the hardest-working folks in the medical profession–nurses. These heroes routinely go above and beyond to provide their patients with humane, attentive, and, most of all, loving care. Over the years, we have taken the time to profile as many amazing nurses as we can, from the sweet “singing nurse,” the caring maternity ward nurse, and this dedicated stroke nurse. Today, we’re happy to give some love to yet another amazing nurse.

The story we’re sharing with you involves a nurse who had a profound effect on her patient, Bailey Murrill. The two met when the nurse was assigned to care for Bailey, a 17-year-old Texas teen who, one day, mysteriously woke up paralyzed from the waist down.

According to the patient, doctors struggled to diagnose her, until they came to the conclusion that Bailey suffers from a rare condition that causes the brain to think that a part of her body is paralyzed. Predictably, the time the teen spent in the hospital was agonizing–for 11 days her mobility was in limbo, a terrifying prospect for a girl who had been planning her prom just days prior.

Lucky for Bailey, though, she had plenty of incredible support during her time at UT Southwestern Medical Center, particularly from her trusty nurse. So, when the teen miraculously began walking after the almost two-week hospital stint, she knew that she had to thank her favorite nurse for all of her loving care. Of course, the sweet interaction was also filmed by Bailey’s parents and promptly posted to YouTube.

In the comments section of the video, Bailey’s neighbor, Krissy Burke, provides us with some additional info:

This young girl is my neighbor and she is 17 years old. She was paralyzed from the waist down and the doctors (three neurosurgeons from three different hospitals) could not figure out why. What this video doesn’t show is the sleepless nights, the worry and anxiety of not knowing if your child will ever walk again. The video also doesn’t show the cancer her dad had just battled and how he was finally in remission only to now have his “little girl” in a hospital with no feeling in her legs. Nor does it show how B kept her faith and wonderful attitude the entire time her future was uncertain. She smiled, she laughed and she didn’t allow the lack of answers to get her down – from day ONE! You also do not see the story of how this nurse became her nurse or the other incredible things that just kept happening one right after another that led to B walking again.

Very powerful stuff! To see Bailey’s awesome nurse get a surprise from the grateful patient, be sure to watch the video below. Faith in humanity restored!

We’d love to hear your thoughts on this heartwarming tale. Are you a fan of the video? Do you suffer from a similar condition as Bailey? Have you ever had the privilege of being cared for by an exemplary nurse?
