The standard American diet is often criticized for being full of carbs, sugar, and an assortment of yummy starches. French fries make any day brighter. And thanks to Panera, we are living up to our reputation.
Panera, home of warm bagels (ahem, Cinnamon Crunch), Frontera Chicken Paninis, and half portions of soups and salads, invites us to indulge in a new option: double bread bowls. Before you get too excited, it’s only available for a limited time.
From February 14 to February 28, comfort food lovers can enjoy helpings of two hearty soups – or mac and cheese – side by side in perfect union. Pull out your bibs or good silverware and get ready to place an order.
Last summer, Panera rolled out a test launch for the bowls in Phillly during the month of August. Jealousy ensued from those who heard about the specialty item on the menu but were nowhere near the city to be able to try them in real life.
At the request of its legions of fans on social media, Panera decided to offer the edible bowls nationwide for a limited time. In a press release, the company announced them as a promo for Valentine’s Day 2019:
“Just in time for Valentine’s Day—because what’s more romantic than sharing soup? — Panera Bread is officially launching Double Bread Bowls across the country. Available for a limited time beginning February 14 and running through February 28, the Double Bread Bowl creates the perfect #PaneraDate to celebrate with your significant other or BFF.”
The double bread bowl is a long sourdough loaf with two holes carved out to make way for your favorite twosome of rich soups. Panera customers who visit in person can order from 90 different combinations, but app users only get a choice of five combos. Prices start at $10.
For those of you who prefer to order via app or online, here are the flavors you can choose:
- Chicken Noodle and Broccoli Cheddar
- Creamy Tomato and Broccoli Cheddar
- Broccoli Cheddar and Broccoli Cheddar
- Bistro French Onion and Broccoli Cheddar
- Ten Vegetable and Creamy Tomato
As you can see, you can only get the mac and cheese if you order in-person, so scurry on over if you want a double scoop of it. There’s no word on whether these bowls will become a permanent menu fixture, but that doesn’t mean you can’t cap off your winter comfort food binge with this treat.
Should time escape you and the opportunity to indulge in Panera’s wholesome offer passes you by, well. . .you can always try to make a copycat version at home. Go big and go home!
We want to know who you would share this with or who in your crew would be the perfect soup-sharing pair. Do tell us if you like this idea and what you think about the presentation. We could think of a few jokes.
