Nicholas Cage Opens Up About Finding “The One” After 4 of His Marriages Ended Up in Divorce

Hollywood marriages—do they ever last? There are some rarities, like Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson or Sarah Michelle Geller and Freddie Prinze Jr., two couples who have been together for decades without much drama to follow. However, then you have people like actor Nicholas Cage, who has been married and divorced a total of four times.

Page married his first wife, Patricia Arquette, in 1995 and got divorced in 2001, citing “irreconcilable differences” as the reason. The two only lived together for a few months in that time and split their property. The two date back to 1987 when Cage met Arquette in a restaurant where he immediately proposed to her. Of course, she had said no a the time, but he was persistent enough where she eventually decided to go for it. We guess she may have regretted that decision in the past!

Cage’s second wife was Lisa Marie Presley, the daughter of the King of Rock and Roll, Elvis Presley. They met at a party in 2000 where Cage fell hard for her. But when they actually began to date, their relationship was far from perfect. They were always breaking up and getting back together, eventually getting married in 2002. But of course, their wonky pattern followed and the two divorced three months later.

His third marriage last quite a bit longer—approximately 12 years with Alice Kim. The strange thing was he was 40 and she as 19 when they tied the knot, plus they got married just two months after meeting. No one thought the relationship would last (including Kim’s mom who didn’t approve of the marriage due to the age difference). However, over the course of the 12 years, Kim and Cage welcomed their son, Kal-El.

The reason was unclear, especially since the two remained friendly. In fact, she even came to Cage’s fifth wedding. But before that, we have to get to Number Four, which was to makeup artist Erika Koike. The two only dated for one year before getting married in 2019 in Las Vegas. But just four days later, he filed for an annulment. What happens in Vegas apparently doesn’t stay in Vegas!

Alas, after four failed marriages, Cage thinks he has truly found the one. At 57 years old, he married Riko Shibata, who is 32 years younger than he is. The two met through mutual friends in Japan while Cage was filming Prisoner of the Ghostland. He proposed to Shibata via FaceTime while she was in Japan, and they got married in February of 2021. In a recent interview, Cage said that the two are happily married after their first year, adding that Shibata is one of his favorite things in the world. “I know five is a lot, but I think I got it right this time,” he said.

We hope he did! Do you know anyone who has gotten divorced this many times? Are they happily married now?
