On September 4, 2024, a nurse named Melissa Jubane didn’t show up for her shift at St. Vincent Hospital in SW Portland. Her coworkers were alarmed at her absence and contacted the police.
According to a case report from the Beaverton Police Department, the police arrived at Jubane’s apartment around 10:18am after receiving a welfare check request. When they arrived, they met with the staff at the apartment complex, and they conducted a search of Jubane’s apartment.
Jubane wasn’t home, and her phone appeared to be off since her friends and family were unable to contact her. In addition, a search of her credit cards failed to help police track down where she might’ve gone.
Jubane was considered a missing person and police began an investigation. Ultimately, they arrested her neighbor, Bryce Johnathan Schubert, and charged him with Melissa’s murder. Police have not stated where her remained were found, but they did find her remains.
According to Jubane’s mother-in-law, Imelda Llantero, Jubane married Bryan Llantero on August 25th, and the couple returned to Oregon on September 1st. Jubane and Bryan Llantero last saw each other on September 2nd when Jubane drove to the apartment in Beaverton where she would stay when she was working so she could be close to work. Meanwhile, her husband stayed with her family in Bremerton.
Jubane showed up for work on September 3rd, but she wasn’t there on the 4th. Imelda Llantero told KHON2 that her son heard from his wife around 6am on September 4th, but she never made it to work that morning.
Police used a blood hound to search for Jubane. They searched the apartment complex and the surrounding area.
Imelda said about Jubane, “I miss her.” She added, “I’m so happy Bryan met her, I told Bryan to always love her. They were happy, very happy.” She added the Jubane had planned to try to find a job closer to Bremerton to be closer to her husband.
