If you want to make sure a pet stays in one room, you just close the door on them, right? Maybe— if it’s a hamster. Or a rabbit. Or even a dog. But if you’ve got a cat? Well, that’s a whole other challenge!
Every fan of the feline family can tell you that containing a cat is no easy feat. After all, an animal who shares 95.6 percent of DNA with tigers isn’t going to take restrictions set by another creature seriously. (Any cat lady and cat man knows who’s really in charge in their home!)
But you’d think a door would work, right? Let’s say you wanted to keep your cat out of the baby’s room, or an area of your home you’re repainting, or that your kitten needs to recuperate after being neutered or spayed. No matter how smart or dexterous your cat might be, surely he isn’t a match for four walls and a solid, latched door?
Turns out, in the battle between door and cat, we all might just need to bet on the cat! Prime evidence? Mulder the cat, and this video recorded by his distressed and confused owner. This cat doesn’t let doors or his lack of opposable thumbs get in his way, no matter what obstacles try to keep him out.
Mulder’s person couldn’t figure out how Mulder kept getting into restricted areas of his home, so he decided to do some experiments and follow his feline around with a camera. Once he saw the results, he tried to figure out ways to make the cat stop— and found that the doors of his home had more than met their match!
To watch Mulder in action, conquer those doors, and show off the common house cat’s incredible five-times-their-own-height jumping ability, check out the video clip below.
How crazy is that?! Not only can Mulder open doors, he figured out how to turn the handles! Can your cat do this? How do you contain your feline pets?
