Having the opportunity to marry a British prince is something that’s straight-out of a fairytale. The story of the “common” person crossing paths with a member of the royal family (usually someone unbelievably good looking, unassuming, and kind, too) is one we’ve heard over and over – but we’ve also seen it play out in real life.

Kate Middleton, now formerly known as Duchess Kate, was very much your average person living in Britain before she met her current husband, Prince William. The world was completely caught up in the romance, mainly because it was a fairytale come true!

Now we’re all obsessing over a whole new Disney-movie-turned-real-life situation with the engagement of Prince Harry and American actress, Meghan Markle. Granted, Meghan is a famous actress from the popular show Suits, so you might not describe her as your “average person,” but dating royalty is pretty unreal for any non-royal.

But, while you might be imagining that Meghan lept at the chance to be set up with Prince Harry (a friend actually set them up on a blind date, funny enough), she told BBC News that she had one big question before giving their romance a try.

“Because I’m from the States, you don’t grow up with the same understanding of the royal family,” Markle said. “While I now understand there’s a global interest there, I didn’t know much about him. And so the only thing that I asked her [their mutual friend] when she said she wanted to set us up was – I had one question, I said, ‘Well, is he nice?’ Because if he wasn’t kind it just didn’t – it didn’t seem like it would make sense.”

You have to respect Meghan here! Pretty much ANYONE would have thrown themselves at the opportunity to talk to a British prince, let alone go on a date with him. But she needed to know this important factor of his personality before she could allow it to go anywhere.

And, it goes without saying, that she quickly discovered just how kind Prince Harry really is.

We obviously don’t know the inner-workings of her relationship with Harry, but we’d have to assume this is one of the reasons the couple fell in love. Meghan wasn’t star-struck over Harry’s status, which must have allowed them to have a real, down-to-earth start to their relationship.

Needless to say, we (as well as the rest of the world) couldn’t be happier for the two of them!
