Can you believe that the royal wedding is less than two weeks away? Even if you’re not a fan of the royal family, it’s still hard not to be interested in the fanfare that is about to be plastered on television screens across the world.
One of the biggest draws is what Meghan Markle’s wedding gown will look like. After months and months of guessing, rumors, and tidbits of truth, we will finally get to see the dress. As expected, it will be worthy of a duchess-to-be and designed by a luxury fashion house. With that in mind, the price tag is also expected to be hefty.
Months ago, Kensington Palace announced that the royal family will pick up the tab for the wedding and it’s been assumed that they’ll also be paying for the cost of Ms. Markle’s gown. However, that may not be the case.
According to a report by Harper’s Bazaar, it sounds like famed couture design house Ralph & Russo created the bridal gown and it is in the six-figure range. If the rumors are true, the estimated cost of Meghan’s gown is somewhere around $135,000. Further speculation has also asserted that she is chipping in – either entirely or partially – for her dress.
While so far details of the dress and its designer have been kept secret, it wouldn’t be surprising if she went with the brand, as they were behind the now-famous dress that was worn in her and Prince Harry’s engagement photos.
The Ralph & Russo brand was started by Australian couple Michael Russo and Tamara Ralph in 2007. Based out of London with boutiques around the world, they have dressed high profile celebs like Beyoncé, Angelina Jolie, and Kylie Minogue.
Meghan has made her own fortune through her acting career and has also established herself as somewhat of a fashionista. It wouldn’t be farfetched for her to want to splurge on the finest details of her wedding gown, even if that means spending her own hard-earned money.
Though that amount of dough for a wedding gown is high, it is way less when compared to that of Duchess Kate’s. Estimates had the worth for her wedding dress at around $430,000— but the Middleton family paid for the Alexander McQueen gown themselves.
It has to be considered that these women are part of the royal family and, therefore, part of the history books. Wedding photographs – and others – will be taken, preserved, and shared around the world for many years to come. Elegance is part of the lifestyle.
We do know that Ms. Markle has her own sense of style and will no doubt have that on display when the big day arrives. It’s not yet clear who will pay for the dress, but the public can definitely expect that the expenses for her designer gown will be taken care of through private funding.
