26-Year-Old Man Killed At Baby Shower After Gender Reveal Cannon Explodes

A baby shower is supposed to be a celebration of a baby to be in which the mom-to-be or the mom and dad-to-be are the guests of honor. Traditional baby showers include a shower of presents for the new mom including teeny tiny clothes, baby bath essentials and possibly even a diaper cake.

Some parents opt for having a gender reveal party instead of or in addition to a typical baby shower. This party is a time for guests and the parents to find out whether the baby is a boy or a girl.

There are multiple safe ways for parents and guests to find out the baby’s gender. Sometimes the pregnant mom might cut into a cake to reveal either pink or blue cake on the inside. Other times, new parents might open a box in which pink or blue balloons pop out. In either case, pink would mean the baby is a girl and blue would mean the baby is a boy.

Not all parents opt for these safe gender reveal options. Some parents want something a little bit more spectacular, such as a fireworks-type explosion that reveals the baby’s gender. After an explosion at a gender reveal party in California started a wild fire, the woman who came up with the idea for a gender reveal party said, “Stop it. Stop having these stupid parties. For the love of God, stop burning things down to tell everyone about your kid’s penis. No one cares but you.”

People are still having gender reveal parties. People are still finding dangerous ways to announce their baby’s gender.

In Gaines Township, Michigan, homeowners set off a small cannon in their backyard during a baby shower. The cannon was supposed to reveal the baby’s gender. Instead, it malfunctioned and blew metal shrapnel in the air. The homeowners’ garage and three parked cars were all hit by the shrapnel, but even worse, a 26-year-old man who was standing nearby was also hit by a piece of shrapnel.

The man was taken to Hurley Medical Center in Flint, Michigan. He did not survive and died at the medical center. Watch the video below for more details about his unfortunate incident.
