Kitchens are a hectic place. There’s food being made (and spilled) everywhere, games being played, kids running around — we could go on and on. Needless to say, it’s hard to keep such a lively place organized. Simultaneously, it’s crucial that you keep everything in organized, or you’ll just slip into a deeper state of clutter each day.
What becomes extra difficult to keep in order are small things; soccer practice schedules, keys, important reminders, and other knickknacks. Rather than let those pile up on your counter or get thrown in a junk drawer to be forgotten, there’s an easy way to keep all those items organized and visible! And in a sleek, stylish way that’s not going to take up too much of your valuable kitchen space.
This DIY magnetic board is the perfect way to keep all of these little items in one place, where they can be neatly displayed without adding to the mess. Plus, it’s easy to personalize, so you can use whatever color or pattern to the backboard that’s going to make your kitchen pop.
An accent piece for the kitchen that’ll reduce clutter? Yes, please!
- Fabric (of your choice)
- Scissors
- Metal sheet
- Spray glue
- Key rail
- Clothespins
- Small magnets
To begin, you’ll need to cut the fabric of your choice to the size of your metal sheet. It should be cut a little bit bigger than the sheet, so that it can fold around to the back and completely cover the metal sides.
While regular glue will work, spray glue is super handy for a project like this and definitely suggested! It’s a fast, easy way to cover a large area like the back of your sheet. Before you fold the edges of the fabric back to be glued, you’ll want to cut the corners in a special way to prevent unsightly bunching. Check out the OWN video below for that helpful little cut!
Once the fabric is glued down, the world is your oyster! We love how they chose to glue on a little stretch of hooks, perfect for keeping keys in one organized spot. To get a gander of the other nice touches they added to complete this project, make sure to watch the quick video below.
