Singer and songwriter Bobby Caldwell may be best known for his song “What You Won’t Do for Love.” Besides being recorded by Bobby and becoming a platinum hit in 1978, it was also covered by Boys II Men as well as more than 100 other performing artists.

Now comes the sad news that at the age of 71, Bobby has passed away. His wife, Mary Caldwell, announced the news on her husband’s official Twitter account. She wrote, “Bobby passed away here at home. I held him tight in my arms as he left us.”

Mary went on to explain her feelings at the loss of her husband. She described herself as “forever heartbroken.” Then she thanked friends, fans and followers for their “many prayers.”

As far as a cause of death, Mary wrote that Bobby “had been ‘FLOXED,’ it took his health over the last 6 years and 2 months.”

FLOXED is a term referring to toxicity from using fluoroquinolone antibiotics. Mary did not say what antibiotics Bobby had used, but in general, fluoroquinolone antibiotics are used for the treatment of life-threatening bacterial infections.

During his career, Bobby’s songs were covered by artists including Peter Cetera and Amy Grant, Vanessa Williams, Questlove, Michael Bolton, Tupac Shakur, and Notorious B.I.G.

Many people have posted tributes to the late singer and songwriter.
