The Kardashians are best known for putting their business on display to the public, but the backlash from Kim’s most recent post indicates she may have been better off keeping their latest excursion to herself.

Just as the news broke that Khloe Kardashian had tested positive for COVID-19, Kim took to her Instagram page to share an image of the luxury getaway she had recently taken for her 40th birthday. It was quickly noted that those who attended the trip were in close proximity to each other (without wearing masks), causing an uproar from her followers, who have since accused her of not taking the pandemic seriously.

Though Kim was adamant she and her inner circle quarantined for two weeks prior, many have called her decision “tone-deaf”, citing her privilege as the reason she was able to take the trip.

Seemingly able to predict the reaction her post would evoke, Kim ended her caption by saying, “I realize that for most people, this is something that is so far out of reach right now, so in moments like these, I am humbly reminded of how privileged my life is.”

Kim’s smooth-over attempt didn’t sit well with thousands of followers, who took to the comments section to let her know exactly how they were feeling about the post. One commenter wrote, “Because it is so far out of reach, maybe you should have kept this trip private.” Others echoed this notion, calling the trip a “slap in the face” to those who have been doing their part to stop the spread.

As of now, Kim has not disabled the comments on her post, nor has she released a statement of her own regarding the adverse reaction her birthday celebration caused.
