Justin Bieber Revealed On Instagram That His Face Has Been Paralyzed Due To Rare Disorder
Last week, on the Justice Tour’s official Instagram page, Bieber announced that he was postponing tour dates due to a “sickness.” He said the cancelation was “doctors orders,” and he planned to “rest and get better.” He did not specify what the sickness was.
Now, Bieber has turned to his own Instagram page to explain what’s going on. He knows fans are disappointed, so he decided to show them exactly why it’s not possible for him to perform right now.
In Bieber’s video he explains, “As you can see, this eye is not blinking. I can’t smile on this side of my face. This nostril will not move, so there’s full paralysis on this side of my face.”
Bieber has been diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt syndrome. According to the Mayo Clinic, “Ramsay Hunt syndrome (herpes zoster oticus) occurs when a shingles outbreak affects the facial nerve near one of your ears. In addition to the painful shingles rash, Ramsay Hunt syndrome can cause facial paralysis and hearing loss in the affected ear.”
The virus that causes Ramsay Hunt syndrome is the same virus that causes chickenpox. Anyone who has previously had chickenpox could one day get Ramsay Hunt syndrome. It usually occurs in people who are over the age of 60. Bieber is only 28.

Bieber’s friends and family are confident that he will make a full recovery. One of his friends told Page Six, “Bieber will be OK.” The friend added, “He will recover.”
Bieber’s wife, Hailey Bieber, shared his announcement about his condition on Instagram captioning the post “I luv u baby.” Bieber has been by her side at the hospital as she recovered from a blood clot in her brain. Now it seems that it’s her turn to support him as he recovers.
