Britney Spears was put into a conservatorship back in 2008 after publicly dealing with her mental health. Her father, Jamie Spears, has been in charge of the conservatorship all these years, and until recently, nobody really knew how toxic the conservatorship was for Britney.
Britney has been actively trying to free herself from the conservatorship, and the #FreeBritney movement has been on her side. Now, with three documentaries about her life and the conservatorship’s control of her life, more and more people are routing for Britney to regain control of her life.
A new documentary called “Controlling Britney Spears” includes an insider explaining that Spears’ father had a security company track everything she did and said on her phone and even set up a recording device in her bedroom. Talk about an invasion of privacy!
Yesterday, September 29, 2021, was the most recent hearing about the conservatorship, and a Los Angeles judge made a decision that is a huge win for Britney. Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Brenda Penny decided to remove Jamie Spears from controlling the conservatorship and replace him with an accountant that was chosen by Britney. Accountant John Zabel is now temporarily in charge of the conservatorship.
Judge Penny could have chosen to end the conservatorship during yesterday’s hearing, but even though she didn’t, being free of her father’s legal control of her life is a major step forward for the pop star.

The next hearing will be on November 12. It is possible that Judge Penney could rule to end the conservatorship at that time.
Do you think the judge will decide to end Britney’s conservatorship in November? Why do you think the judge didn’t end the conservatorship yesterday? Have you watched any of the documentaries about the conservatorship?
