Graphic New Video Shows Hundreds Of Birds Suddenly Dropping From The Sky In Mexico
Yellow-headed blackbirds travel from Canada through the United States and down to Mexico for the winter every year. This is normal. What’s not normal is the footage one security camera captured.
In a video from a home security camera in the city of Cuauhtémoc, which is in northern Mexico, everything starts out normal. Then, all of a sudden, there is a rush of black plummeting towards the ground. It almost looks like smoke at first, but it’s not. It’s hundreds of yellow-headed blackbirds.
Many of the blackbirds were seen later flying away, but many others crashed into the ground and died. Additional footage shows the birds lying dead in the streets.

It remains unclear why exactly these birds all dove to the ground. In a local newspaper called El Heraldo de Chihuahua, a veterinarian speculated that perhaps the birds crashed to the ground because of an environmental factor like pollution or cold weather. Another suggested that possibly the birds were sitting on power lines and got electrocuted. On social media, it was suggested that maybe 5G technology killed the birds.
An ecologist from the UK named Dr Richard Broughton believes that none of the above speculations are true. He thinks it’s most likely that a predatory bird from above caused the birds to swirl close together and dive towards the ground. He explained, “This looks like a raptor like a peregrine or hawk has been chasing a flock, like they do with murmurating starlings, and they have crashed as the flock was forced low.” He added, “You can see that they act like a wave at the beginning, as if they are being flushed from above.”
