How to Start Golfing Without Going Broke

Golf can be an expensive sport to get into for sure, but it doesn’t have to make you go broke. If you’re looking into getting started with golf, take a look at some great tips from Nate Segall of Zing! blog for getting going on the cheap:

Buy Used Equipment

As many avid golfers know, buying top of the line equipment will not make you a better golfer. So it’s not worth it to go out there and buy all new clubs, shoes, balls, etc. You’ll want to start out by getting a driver, some irons (5-9), a wedge and a putter. Here are some places you can stock up on the cheap:

  • eBay
  • Used club sections at golf stores
  • Garage sales
  • Thrift stores
  • Borrow from a friend or family member

Get Instruction for Free

If you don’t know the first thing about golfing, don’t run out and pay for lessons or for a personal instructor. There are lots of free ways to gain knowledge for free. Try asking a friend for some tips at the driving range. Or head over to YouTube and search for “golf instruction videos.” You can also go to the PGA website and check out their instruction section for some great tips.
