We’re always on the lookout for delicious hot beverage recipes that we can enjoy on cold winter nights. We found this crock pot hot cocoa recipe that has already proved to be a big hit, but what about a hot cocoa recipe in a smaller portion size? Thanks to Buzzfeed, we’ve found the perfect recipe. They’ve shared Jacques Torres’ famous recipe for hot cocoa with whipped cream – a drink that they’ve lovingly called a “delicious mess of chocolate and cream.” What could be better?
Here’s what you need to make 4 servings:
-1 cup of 60% dark chocolate (in disks or coarsely chopped)
-2 cups whole milk (if you don’t like your hot chocolate to be super rich, use 3 cups of milk)
-1/2 cup milk powder
-1 tsp cornstarch
-1 cup heavy cream (chilled)
Here’s what you do:
Make the Whipped Cream
Put heavy cream in a medium mixing bowl and freeze it for 5 minutes. Then, take the bowl out of the freezer and whisk until soft peaks form.
Make the Hot Cocoa!
In a medium saucepan, bring milk to a boil over medium-high heat. Once boiling, reduce heat to medium and add in the chocolate, whisking vigorously until the chocolate melts completely. Add in the cornstarch and milk powder, continuing to whisk until mixture is smooth and thick, and all ingredients are incorporated.
Divide the hot chocolate between 4 mugs, top with a dollop of whipped cream, and enjoy!
