How to Hang a Sweater Without Stretching It Out

Yes, you read that correctly— hanging a sweater! We know that common wisdom says you should always fold your sweaters and put them in drawers, but since sweaters are so bulky, we run out of drawer space fast. So when we saw this trick for hanging them in our closet, it was like an answer to our clothing prayers.

Good Housekeeping shared the video from Woman’s Day with us, and now we’re sharing it with you! Please, don’t thank us.

The amazing Clinton Kelly shows us that hanging a sweater the regular way isn’t as fool-proof as we thought it was. Typically, you would slip your hanger through the sleeves of your top, but this method actually stretches your sweater out AND causes bumps in your shoulders.

Not cool.

Don’t resort to filling your drawers with your bulky sweater again! You can still hang them in your closet, just not in the way we’re accustomed to.

Instead, start by laying your sweater out on a flat surface. Fold the sweater length wise, so it’s shoulder-to-shoulder. Now put the hanger in the armpit of the sweater and fold over the sleeve. Fold the body of the shoulder over the other side and there you have it! Your new favorite way to hang clothes.

This is a perfect way to maintain the shape of your sweater while saving yourself space in your drawers! A true win/win situation.
