When the movie “Hocus Pocus” was released in 1993, nobody could have predicted that it would be a Halloween classic decades later. Yet, here we are. It has been 17 years since the Sanderson sisters graced the screen and stole our hearts.

As Halloween approaches, you can buy Hocus Pocus themed everything, even face masks. That’s definitely proof that the movie is still very popular as people who grew up with the film introduce it to their own children.

All of the actresses who played the Sanderson sisters have expressed interest in doing a sequel to the film

Sarah Jessica Parker, who played Sarah Sanderson, said, “I think that it is something Bette Midler, Kathy Najimy, and I are all very hospitable to the idea. I think for a long time, people were talking about it as if people were moving forward with it in a real way but we were unaware of it. But I think now, we’ve gotten to the point where we’ve agreed publicly to the right people, ‘yes, that would be a very, very fun idea,’ so we’ll see what the future holds.”

Bette Midler, who played Winifred Sanderson, said, “We actually talk about it whenever we see each other. We laugh, we say, ‘Oh, wouldn’t it be great if?’ Because all of us had pretty much the same experience on it.” The “we” that Midler is referring to is herself along with Parker and Kathy Najimy, who played Mary Sanderson.

Najimy said, “I don’t know if the worlds are going to collide so that we could all three do it at the same time. But I’m happy that it’s happening because the fans are really rabid and they really want it. And if we’re not all available to star in it, I think it would be so great to do a cameo. I think that’d be really fun.”

Mick Garris, the writer of the original film, would love to see a sequel staring the original cast. “I would love to see them return in it. I think that’s the plan, but I don’t know. I heard that that is what’s happening, and I believe it’s going to be for Disney+, but I’m not involved in it, which is fine. You don’t always want to revisit all of the touchstones of your past.”

Representatives have had meetings with the actors via Zoom with the hopes of possibly filming in 2021 in Los Angeles in Massachusetts. Nothing is official yet, but it looks hopeful. Fingers crossed for a sequel released in time for Halloween 2021!
