Gymnast Who Went Viral For Her Michael Jackson Moves Scored a Perfect 10 For Her Next Routine

If you follow gymnastics, you may have heard of Katelyn Ohashi. She was on the USA Gymnastics’ junior national team for four years. Back in 2013, she even beat team member Simone Biles to win the American Cup. While Biles went on to become a four-time Olympic champion, Ohashi stepped away from her Olympic dreams.

In a video for the Players Tribune, Ohashi talks about how she “was broken” – literally. She went from a happy little girl who loved gymnastics to a girl who felt pressure, stress and rarely smiled. She couldn’t even eat a meal without obsessively exercising afterwards. What’s even worse is that she was competing with a fractured back and two torn shoulders.

Ohashi decided to step away from elite gymnastics with the hope of healing and being able to compete in college. She found just that at UCLA where her floor routines are not to be missed.

She competed using a stunning Michael Jackson medley for her music last season, and her flawless routine seemed impossible to beat, but during her floor routine on January 12th, she outdid herself.

While her new routine is packed with insanely difficult moves and an ending that everyone’s talking about, what’s just as notable is the huge smile on her face. Ohashi seems to truly be finding joy in her sport again.

Her teammates can be heard cheering for her from the sidelines. Instead of facing harsh criticism for every move she makes like in her elite gymnastics days, Ohashi’s extreme talent is now rightly met with praise and awe.

Since UCLA Gymnastics originally tweeted the video of Ohashi’s floor routine on January 12th, 2019, it has been retweeted 102,000 time and viewed 20.3 million times.

One commenter writes, “The power drop into the splits bounce up at the end is mind bending. The power moves in modern floor routines are ridiculous. Awesome + sauce.”

Another person adds, “The amount of fun @katelyn_ohashi appears to be having and how relaxed she looks is what it’s all about. Phenomenal, so much fun to watch this team compete.”
