It sucks being turned down for a job you really wanted, and worse if your living arrangements somewhat depended on that gig. That seems to be the case for loads of dogs who didn’t get picked to be TSA inspectors.
That’s right. While going through the airport agency’s training program, some canines have been deemed “too friendly” for the job’s requirements. Others are too shy, distracted, or disinterested.
Instead of graduating from the program and moving on to fulfilling careers, they are housed and cared for at a base facility unless someone like you adopts them. The TSA’s website states that these dogs can make awesome family additions with the right care.
However, there is an application process in place to make sure potential owners are a good fit. Some requirements include having a fenced yard (with photographic proof), references, an interview with your veterinarian, and travel to San Antonio, Texas.
As word is spreading about this TSA adoption program, the waiting list has grown for these adorable pups. If you’re interested in signing up to be an adoptive candidate, visit their website for more details on the application process, and watch the informative video below!
There is also the possibility of adopting from other government agencies where the dogs have either retired from service or did not make it through training. Check out groups such as Freedom Service Dogs of America or Mission K9 Rescue. They all need love!
