A funeral is usually a sad occasion, after all, it’s the time when loved ones say goodbye to a friend or family member who has died. There is usually a lot more crying at funerals than laughing.

Irish Defense Forces veteran Shay Bradley wanted there to be laughter at his funeral. He knew he was dying a slow death, so he had time to think up a good prank and a great way to make his family stop crying and start laughing right at the saddest moment, when his casket was being lowered into the ground.

In a video shared on social media, Bradley can be heard calling out to the mourners supposedly from the casket. In the pre-recorded message, Bradley says, “Hello, hello — let me out!” He continues by asking, “Where the f - - k am I? Let me out, let me out. It’s f - - king dark in here.” He continues, “Is that the priest I can hear? This is Shay, I’m in the box. No, in f - - king front of you.”

Just in case anyone actually thought Bradley was alive in the box, his prerecorded message clarifies, “I’m dead.”

The Irish Defence Forces Veterans News Facebook page posted a tribute to Bradley upon learning about his death. In their post, they described his cause of death as “a long illness bravely borne.” He leaves behind his wife, Anne, his four children, Jonathan, Susanne, James and Andrea, and his 8 grandchildren, as well as brothers, sisters, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.

While his family is “heartbroken” at his death, they appreciate his sense of humor. His daughter Andrea wrote that her father was “always the prankster.” She added, “Ya got them good Poppabear and gave us all a laugh just when we needed it!! I will love you forever.”
