Breaking news on the latest Facebook hack–the social media platform has just revealed some important specifics about the unfortunate breach, including a surefire way to check whether or not your account was compromised.

In an official update published in its Help Center, Facebook describes in full detail what we all feared regarding late September’s hack; the hackers got access to roughly 30 million users’ account info which includes, amongst other things, phone numbers, related email addresses, places of residence, and even recent check-ins.

Luckily, Facebook doesn’t believe that any financial information, such as credit card and bank account numbers, have been accessed by the hackers. Having said that, the personal information that was accessed can leave users vulnerable to other hackings via spam and/or phishing phone calls and emails.

The social media platform believes that a bulk of the information that was stolen from users took place in a relatively short amount of time–between the dates September 14th and September 27th of this year.

So, how can you determine whether or not your account was compromised in the hack?

All you need to do is log in into your Facebook account and click the ‘?’ icon in the top right-hand corner of the welcome screen. Once there, you will find another link entitled ‘Help Center’–click that and you will be met with an announcement under the ‘Privacy’ tab. At the end of the article, there will be a blue box that should tell you the status of your account.

If you were one of the unlucky ones, definitely change your passwords immediately, both for your Facebook and your related email addresses. And, even if you were NOT affected, it’s still a good idea to change that password. With all of the hacking and phishing efforts going on these days, you can never be too safe!
