End-of-summer means back to school for some and the end of lazy afternoons at the beach for others. Did you know that Cobbler refers to a variety of dishes, particularly in the United Kingdom and the United States, consisting of a fruit or savory filling poured into a large baking dish and covered with a batter, biscuit, or dumpling before being baked?
In the 1800s, this dessert was ‘cobbled’ together by early American settlers using fruit – usually preserved, canned, or dried – and clumps of biscuit dough before baking it over an open fire. We prefer peaches recently picked of course!
