At this point, nobody knows who the next person to portray the iconic character James Bond will be, not even the producers of the next film in the franchise. The casting process will begin in 2022, so the opportunity is there for a lot of people.

There has been speculation that perhaps the next James Bond will be a woman, but it seems that will not be the case. Franchise producer Barbara Broccoli told the Press Association, “James Bond is a male character. I hope that there will be many, many films made with women, for women, by women, about women.” She added, “I don’t think we have to take a male character and have a woman portray him. So yes, I see him as male.”

The most recent actor to play Bond, Daniel Craig, has also said that he thinks the next Bond should be a male actor. He told the Radio Times, “Why should a woman play James Bond when there should be a part just as good as James Bond, but for a woman?”

It’s probably safe to say that the next James Bond will be a man, but that still leaves a lot of possibilities? Will it be a man of color? Will it be a British actor? Will to be an American? Will we be surprised by who is chosen for the role?

Dwayne Johnson hopes that he gets the opportunity to be the next James Bond. The California born actor explained that he has a family connection to the franchise, and he would like to have the opportunity to continue that connection but in a different way.

Johnson told Esquire, “Yes, my grandfather was a Bond villain in ‘You Only Live Twice’ with Sean Connery. Very, very cool.” Yet, that isn’t cool enough for Johnson. He continued, “I would like to follow in his footsteps and be the next Bond. I don’t want to be a villain. Gotta be Bond.”

The current list of actors who have portrayed Bond include Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig. We have yet to find out who will be added to this impressive list.
