Dolly Parton may be a talented actress, a country music legend and an all-around great person, but that doesn’t mean that she doesn’t know how to do ordinary tasks. For example, Parton is a great cook, and she really enjoys cooking.
Parton told CBS’s Gayle King that she learned how to cook from her mother and other relatives. She grew up in Tennessee and learned a lot of classic southern recipes, but you don’t have to make banana pudding or grits to benefit from her cooking knowledge.
During a Zoom interview with Insider, Parton shared a trick for making a very common breakfast item – scrambled eggs. She explained that adding just a little bit of ice water to the eggs will make them perfectly fluffy. Parton said, “Somebody told me this once and it works. When you crack your eggs in the bowl, say if you’re going to scramble them, use ice water. Put a few drops of ice water as you’re cooking them and that makes them fluffier — it really does!”
We feel like we can trust Parton’s advice about cooking eggs because she cooks eggs for her husband every weekend. She shared that she makes a big breakfast to share with her husband on the weekends, and eggs are always part of it.
Another breakfast food that she makes quite often is french toast. You’ll find her in the kitchen whipping up this delicious breakfast treat on Sunday mornings. She shared that she always uses white bread when she makes french toast, and she likes to serve it with bacon. Parton said, “This is not diet food now, mind you.”
Parton likes to cook a wide variety of foods. She explained, “I just cook whatever comes to mind and whatever I’m in the mood for. I can cook any of it!”
Parton also likes to bake, and she has collaborated with Duncan Hines to create a new line of cake mixes and frostings. For example, there is currently a boxed set available that includes banana cake mix, coconut cake mix, buttercream frosting and chocolate frosting.
Are you going to try adding ice water the next time you make scrambled eggs? Does it surprise you that Parton knows so much about cooking and baking? Do you like to cook? What’s your favorite thing to make for breakfast on the weekend?
