Did you know that your skin is actually your body’s largest organ? Glowing skin can be a sign of overall health for this reason. But no matter what we do, it seems like wrinkles are practically inevitable.
Eating right, staying active, drinking plenty of water, avoiding smoking, and getting enough sleep all help keep wrinkles at bay. But UV rays can cause them over time (yet another reason to wear sunscreen!), and they’re also a natural part of aging. So don’t think that a few wrinkles showing up necessarily means you’re doing something “wrong”!
Fortunately, there are also some great DIY ways to reduce and prevent wrinkles. Here are 7 of our favorites that you can easily whip up at home:
-
Olive Oil Night Cream
Pour 2 teaspoons of olive oil into a small bowl. Pop open 3 capsules of vitamin E, and pour them in, then stir in about a half-teaspoon of Vaseline.
Set the small bowl in a warm water bath for a few minutes to help everything meld. Apply some of this cream to your neck and chest before you go to sleep every night for some lifting and softening action!
-
Citrus Mask
Squeeze out the juice of 1 lemon into a bowl, then stir in 2-3 tablespoons of honey. Dab some of the mixture on your face with a cotton ball, and let it sit until dry. You can rinse everything off with cool water.
Repeating this once a week can leave your skin looking beautifully supple.
-
Egg White Mask
Whip egg whites in a small bowl, using a fork or small whisk. They’ll start to become frothy, then light and creamy.
Use your fingers to gently rub some of the cream on your face, or wherever you’ve got problem wrinkles. Let everything dry for about 15 minutes, then rinse!
-
Olive Oil Massage
Gently massaging your skin stimulates it, which helps keep it healthy-looking. You can simply use your hands, but why not apply a few drops of olive oil first?
The oil will not only make the massage feel smoother, it will also help moisturize your skin. It’s like a double dose of wrinkle-fighting action!
-
Bee Pollen Mask
If you’ve never used bee pollen (available at health and natural food stores), it’s pretty amazing stuff. Among its many wonders, bee pollen can “sting” fine wrinkles away.
Mix together 2 tablespoons of the pollen, ¼ cup whole milk, a tablespoon of raw honey, and ½ cup of mashed avocado. Apply some of the paste to your face, and let it sit for 20 minutes before rinsing. Bee-utiful!
-
Carrot and Honey Mask
Honey, you can probably tell by now, is a real miracle-worker when it comes to fighting wrinkles. To boost its power, combine it with the antioxidants found in carrots.
Blend 1 whole carrot until it’s juiced, then add 2 teaspoons of honey. Dab the mixture on your wrinkles, let it sit for 20 minutes, and then rinse. Applying this mask twice a week can help soften and lift your skin.
-
Quick and Easy Moisturizer
This one’s super simple. Apply a thin (we mean thin!) layer of Vaseline to your face, neck, or wherever else you’re bothered by wrinkles before you head for bed. Petroleum jelly is a natural skin healer, and it will work its magic overnight!
Generally, these treatments are good for anyone, though if you’ve got sensitive skin or other issues, you might want to talk to a dermatologist first. More than likely, there are several natural, DIY wrinkle-fighting treatments that will work for you! Have you tried any of these? Do you have other favorites?
