Vinegar strikes again! This amazing liquid has so many uses from a helpful health remedy to cleaning and disinfecting. One quick and money-saving DIY hack focuses on the latter with an amazing two-ingredient cleaner for getting a dirty bathroom to shine like new. You may be thinking that using bleach or a chemical cleaner is just as easy, but while those may be effective, they are not as safe or cheap.
As you might imagine, we’ve had a ton of vinegar-related posts that have ranged to solutions for arthritis to shining your shoes and killing weeds. This time, we bring you a way to clean the grime from your bathroom, and if it looks easy that’s because it is!
All you need is a spray bottle, dishwashing soap, warm vinegar, gloves and a brush. As you could have probably guessed, the dish soap and warm vinegar get mixed in a special proportion (ok, it’s one part warm vinegar and one part dish soap) in the spray bottle. And the best part is, your bathroom wont smell like cleaning chemicals.
The popular chemical in the bathroom is usually bleach, but the Centers for Disease Control recommends several precautions. First off, the CDC says any person cleaning with bleach should wear rubber gloves, boots, and protective eyewear. You should also dilute the bleach with water and open windows to let the fumes escape. No such warnings about vinegar.
So how does vinegar do it? Well, according to the Vinegar Institute – yes, that exists – vinegar is made from a natural two-part process that turns sugar into acetic acid. They explain:
“The first process is called alcoholic fermentation and occurs when yeasts change natural sugars to alcohol under controlled conditions. In the second process, a group of bacteria (called “Acetobacter”) converts the alcohol portion to acid. This is the acetic, or acid fermentation that forms vinegar. Proper bacteria cultures are important; timing is important; and fermentation should be carefully controlled.”
However it’s made, vinegar works in so many situations, and you’ll be amazed at the results from this demonstration that you’ll be mixing it up every time your bathroom needs a cleaning.
After spraying your special DIY cleaner, the video suggests letting it sit for thirty minutes. Depending on the amount of grime, you could let the spray sit even longer, or continue to reapply.
