Pregnancy is an emotional rollercoaster. Not only are hormones messing with us, making us cry for no reason at all and then convincing us we need to straighten up the nursery like our lives depend on it. No, that’s not all. There’s also the real, overwhelming reality that a new little person is going to be entering the world and that it is our responsibility to take care of that person.
Now imagine being married to a soldier in the U.S. Army. You’re pregnant, and he’s deployed, not expected to come home for months. Hopefully you have a great support system from friends and family especially if you have other children to take care of.
To add to the mix, imagine being pregnant with twins. The odds of making it to your due date with twins are pretty slim. There’s only so much room in there, after all. If your husband is deployed, it’s pretty safe to say there’s no chance that he’ll make it home by the time they’re born.
This whole scenario is not made up. It’s reality for Cydney Cooper. She is married to Army Staff Sergeant Skyler Cooper, and she was pregnant with twins while he was deployed in Kuwait. He wasn’t expected to come home until Spring, but sometimes plans change.
Cydney caught the flu and went into labor well before her due date. She had to have an emergency c-section to save her twin girls. Meanwhile, Skyler was doing everything that he could to try to get home early. Thanks to his Battalion Commander, he actually made it happen.
Cydney had no idea that her husband was coming home. She says that he has never surprised her before, but this time, it was a huge surprise. She posted several videos of Skyler’s homecoming on Facebook. One video is Skyler surprising his son’s that he’s home. In another video, he’s reunited with the family dog. The video that’s going viral though, is the one of Skyler and Cydney.
In the video, Cydney is at the hospital holding one of her baby girls who is wrapped up in a swaddle blanket. Cydney is texting Skyler. She has no idea that he is standing in the doorway of her hospital room.
It appears that the nurse is in on the surprise too. She goes about her business, quietly acting like nothing is unusual. Then Cydney turns and sees Skyler. Her reaction is too priceless for words.
Watch the video below to see what happens when Cydney sees Skyler again for the first time.
As Cydney explains on Facebook, “1 year of crazy, 1000s of miles, 1 solo pregnancy and delivery, 48392 Skype calls, some superheros, a few plane rides, 12 NICU days, tons of help from family and friends, and many tears later….A soldier came home.”
How would you react if your spouse surprised you in a smiliar situation?
