We’ve seen lots of real amazing and meaningful tattoos. For example, sometimes people will get tattoos to turn a scar into something beautiful. Other times, friends or relatives might get matching tattoos with special symbolism.
Demi Lovato is not new to tattoos. They already had several but decided to add another. They had to get part of their head shaved for their latest tat, and before letting it regrow, they shared pictures and videos of the newest ink.
That tattoo, which was created by tattoo artist Dr. Woo, is of a huge spider, and it takes up a very large part of their head.
This isn’t just a random tattoo. It holds special meaning, and Lovato made sure to share that meaning when they shared the pictures of their newest tattoo on Instagram. Lovato explained that their head tattoo was inspired by Native American mythology about Grandmother Spider.
In their Instagram Stories, Lovato shared a quote from a book called “Grandmother Spider Brings the Sun: A Cherokee Story.” The book, which was written by Geri Keams, explains, “It was Grandmother Spider who taught us many things. She taught us about pottery and weaving. She taught us about fire and light and dark. She taught us that we are all connected on the web — each one of us having our own place in this world.”

After sharing the pictures of their new ink in their Instagram Stories, Lovato joked, “Now @alchemistamber come fix my hair pleeeease.”
This isn’t the first tattoo Lovato has gotten by Dr. Woo. In August 2021, Lovato showed off a tattoo that includes the words “Love will live forever in the infinite universe” and a picture of stars and Saturn. In addition, Dr. Woo also tattooed a small crescent moon on Lovato’s middle finger.
Once again, Lovato shared the inspiration for the tattoo. The words aren’t just words; they’re lyrics from the Beautiful Chorus’ song “Infinite Universe.” Lovato shared that they find these lyrics meaningful because “The song that represents [being] 28 for me would have to be ‘Infinite Universe’ by Beautiful Chorus.”
What do you think of Lovato’s new spider tattoo? Why do you think they chose to have it tattooed on their head? Did you know about the Grandmother Spider myth before reading about Lovato’s tattoo? Do you think Lovato should keep their head shaved so they can show off the tattoo, or should they let their hair grow back?
