Question: what’s your favorite comedy from the ’90s? We know, we know, it’s kind of an unfair question because there are just too many classics to choose from! Personally, we can’t get enough of Wayne’s WorldAustin Powers, Dumb and Dumber, and Office Space, but our all-time favorite has to be Tommy Boy.

Yep, we’re not too proud to say that we’ve seen that movie dozens of times. In fact, every time it comes on TV, we can’t help but watch until the credits roll– it’s just that funny. C’mon, “fat guy in a little coat?!” It doesn’t get much better than that, folks…

But, laughs aside, it’s pretty much impossible to get through the film without remembering that the late, great Chris Farley is no longer with us. The legendary actor and comedian died at just 33 of a drug overdose back in 1997, but that doesn’t mean that he has been forgotten by his adoring fans.

In fact, when his long-time co-star and frequent collaborator, David Spade, participated in a Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything) a bulk of the questions presented to the actor had to do with his pal, Chris Farley.

You see, when Farley died over 20 years ago, there was much speculation about the true nature of his relationship with Spade, with some questioning whether the comedic duo was even close off-screen. The speculation began not long after the actor’s death when Spade failed to show up for his funeral.

Finally, after two decades of quiet on the issue, Spade broke his silence to his Reddit audience. Here’s what he wrote:

Wow. Well, I have to say, I think about him all the time. We had such a good time for so long, and we were crammed together for so long, that we did have our squabbles, but I think people misunderstood me not going to that funeral, it was nothing about that it was just too… emotional, and I wouldn’t be able to handle it.

Yep, pretty sad stuff, folks. As it turns out, Spade and Farley didn’t hold a grudge like some gossip hounds reported– Spade was just simply too heartbroken to face the daunting prospect of attending a very public funeral. We don’t blame him one bit!

These days, the actor says that he does his best to keep Farley’s legacy alive and thinks of him often.

But I still hear songs, of all things, I know it sounds stupid, but there are songs that I hear, and they remind me of him. And just different situations.

And I see his brother Kevin a lot, and he reminds me of him, and makes me laugh, because the whole family has the same mannerisms in some ways. But overall, just good thoughts…

It really sounds like Spade has found a healthy way to grieve for his beloved friend and colleague. We sure do miss this dynamic duo!

We’d love to hear your thoughts on David Spade’s revealing AMA. Were you surprised by his responses? What’s your favorite David Spade and Chris Farley movie?
