Someone is trying to frame David Schwimmer! The ‘Friends’ actor’s apparent doppelgänger was recently caught on a surveillance video stealing cans of beer from a grocery store in England—and it seriously looks like his twin. Ross Geller, is that you?
When the Blackpool Police Department posted a surveillance photo to their Facebook page, the entire internet was quick to see the uncanny resemblance. I mean, how could you not? It looks just like him!
We know what you’re thinking, but don’t worry—it definitely isn’t him. Schwimmer was proven innocent by police as he was in New York at the time of the theft. It’s always good to have an alibi, people!
“Thank you to everyone for your speedy responses. We have investigated this matter thoroughly and have confirmed that David Schwimmer was in America on this date. We’re so sorry it has to be this way,” the department wrote on their social media.
Of course, funny man Schwimmer couldn’t let the wackiness of the situation go and wanted to make light of the whole thing. So he created a hilarious video of himself running through a grocery store aisle holding a box of beer, as to recreate the photo. In the video, he glances up at the camera with a phony nervous glance, mimicking the glance his lookalike had in the photo.
Schwimmer posted the video, which has been viewed more than 8 million times to date, to his social media, along with the caption, “Officers, I swear it wasn’t me. As you can see, I was in New York. To the hardworking Blackpool Police, good luck with the investigation.”
Luckily, most people found the humor in the situation and weren’t too offended about semi mocking a crime. Even the police department had to laugh about the video, reposting it on their Facebook, with the caption, “Thanks for being there for us David Schwimmer. We appreciate your support!“
While the photo has since been deleted from the department’s Facebook page, there were some pretty epic comments and witty banter to follow it.
“I don’t think it’s been this guy’s day, his week, his month or even his year,” one commenter wrote, quoting the Friends theme song, followed by another pithy post: “I’m surprised you’ve not found him…it’s like you’re always stuck in second gear.”
Some diehard Friends fans began to comment with jokes relating to some of his best-known lines. “Apparently the police had him cornered then he performed a pivot manoeuvre and escaped,” someone wrote, with another one following up: “I saw him behind me in the shop around that time.. just as I was paying for MY SANDWICH.”
One person did remind the public that this was kind of a serious matter—though they couldn’t help but find the humor in the situation as well: “He’s a thief and it’s serious,” they wrote. “But these comments are hilarious.”
