Back when the coronavirus pandemic started, one of the first places we saw the virus spread was on cruise ships. Then those who disembarked from cruise ships unknowingly spread the new virus to their community.

Honestly, we were surprised to hear that there are cruise ships that are operating again. In a time when so many people have canceled their travel plans, it might seem unthinkable to consider boarding a cruise ship, but thousands of people have done just that.

In Italy, the MSC Grandiosa has set sail at 40% capacity and with many new safety measure in place. For example, everyone was tested for COVID-19 before they boarded the ship, and there is retesting every single day passengers are on-board the ship. The crew was not only tested for COVID-19 but also quarantined prior to the ship disembarking.

Now, there are roughly 2000 people on board the ship, and none of them have tested positive for COVID-19. The testing seems to be working so far, and if nobody ends up getting sick, this could be a great example for other cruise lines to follow.

It’s important to note that Americans currently aren’t allowed to board the MSC Grandiosa, and cruise ships currently aren’t setting sail from American ports, but that doesn’t mean this couldn’t change in the near future.
