‘Wheel of Fortune’ Contestant Flubs A Commonly Mispronounced Eurythmics Lyrics

There have been multiple “Wheel of Fortune” contestants who have solved difficult puzzles that had very few letters on the board. There are other “Wheel of Fortune” contestants who have struggled to solve puzzles with almost all of the letters on the board. Now, we’re seeing contestants flub the answer even when it’s already spelled out for them, yet we understand why.

Do you remember the Eurythmics song “Sweet Dreams”? If you do, you may have the lyrics playing in your head read now. Does it sound something like, “Sweet dreams are made of these. Who am I do disagree. I travel the world and the seven seas. Everybody’s looking for something.”

If that’s what you heard in your head, you’re wrong. Those aren’t the lyrics, at least, not exactly, and that’s what messed up one “Wheel of Fortune” contestant.

It turns out that the lyrics to the song aren’t “Sweet dreams are made of these.” No, the lyrics are actually, “Sweet dreams are made of this.” That’s right: this. We know “these” seems to make more sense since it rhymes with “seas.” It’s also the way Annie Lennox pronounces the word while singing the song, but it doesn’t matter. The official lyrics to the song read “Sweet dreams are made of this.”

Back to “Wheel of Fortune.” The category was “lyrics.” Almost all of the letters were on the board. The last word was already spelled out entirely. That’s right. The puzzle’s last word was “this.” This is what the puzzle looked like before the contestant, Chris, told host Pat Sajak that he was ready to solve:

S_EET  _REAMS

ARE  MA_E  O_

THIS

When Chris solved the puzzle, he said, “Sweet dreams are made of these.” He was wrong.

Often contestants feel bad or embarrassed when they make what looks like a silly mistake when solving a puzzle. Often, the internet isn’t kind to them either with viewers making fun of them on social media. This time is different. This time, viewers are on Chris’s side.

On Twitter, many “Wheel of Fortune” viewers and Eurythmics fans refuse to believe that the lyrics to the song “Sweet Dreams” actually say “this” instead of “these.” One viewer tweeted, “Until I hear Annie Lennox confirm herself that the lyrics are ‘Sweet dreams are made of THIS’, I will not believe it.”

Another viewer watching at home agreed that he was positive the lyrics were “these” and not “this.”

Did you know the lyrics to the song “Sweet Dreams” were “Sweet dreams are made of this”? Do you agree that it sounds like Annie Lennox is singing “these” and not “this”?
